The Ae 3/6II was a highspeed train locomotive of the Swiss National Railroads Bundesbahnen (SBB). Their planned area of operation were the main lines of the SBB, that were electrified quite soon after the electrification of the Gotthard railway.
60 of this type of Locomotive were built between 1921 and 1925 by «SLM Winterthur» and the «Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon». The serial numbers were 10401-10460. They weighed between 96 and 99 Tons.
Up until 1964 all locomotives of this series were operational and available. Between 1965 and 1977 the SBB began to decommission these locomotives. It was decided to keep the 10439 as a functional loc for posterity; because she was in bad condition, it was decided to turn the 10452 into 10439.
As with other series, changes were made to the drive in 1929 and an increase of the maximum speed of 90 km/h to 100 km/h became possible. To preserve the locomotive SBB Historic decided to operate it with a maximum speed of 80 km/h and a reduced towed load.
